Coping Skills Crash Course
Building resilience, one skill at a time
Life as a teen is stressful.
Between school, friendships, family expectations, and figuring out the future, it’s normal to feel overwhelmed. But you don’t have to do it alone.
This small, supportive group (max 6 participants) is designed to help teens build real-world coping skills for managing stress, handling emotions, and improving relationships—so they can feel more in control, more confident, and less stuck.
Who It's For
Teens ages 15-18 who:
Feel stressed, anxious, or overwhelmed
Want better ways to handle emotions and relationships
Like the idea of learning in a small, supportive group
Want tools they can actually use—not just “talk about”

Group Leader
Rebecca Kinshella, MS, LPC Associate
Hi! I’m Rebecca. I’m a counselor with years of experience helping people navigate life’s challenges with confidence. Life can throw a lot at you, and sometimes, it can feel like too much. That’s why we need each other! My approach is all about creating a supportive space where teens can learn coping skills, discover their inner strength, and realize that they’re more capable than they might think. Together, we’ll work through stress, emotions, and the uncertainties of the future, all while keeping things real and finding moments of humor along the way. After all, life’s tough, but so are you.

Group will consist of three parts:
A learning portion:
We’ll explore various topics including mindfulness, emotional regulation, effective communication, and distress tolerance skills.
These skills are compiled from a variety of evidence-based modalities, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Emotion-Focused therapies.
A “try it out” portion:
We’ll practice selected skills in session together.
A process portion:
We’ll explore what it was like to practice these skills, where any roadblocks may be when trying to use them in real life, and where they may be useful moving forward.
We’ll also work together to assign the group a challenge to practice these skills over the following week.

By the end of the six weeks, participants will walk away with:
A personalized toolkit of coping strategies for handling stress, anxiety, and overwhelming emotions
Stronger communication skills for navigating relationships with family, friends, and teachers
More confidence in facing challenges and making decisions
A better understanding of their emotions and how to manage them in healthy ways
New connections with peers who understand and support them

Group therapy isn’t just “talking about feelings.” It’s proven to work—just as well as individual therapy for many issues, including stress, anxiety, and emotional regulation (Lo Coco et al., 2021).
Why It Works:
It’s real-world practice. Teens don’t just learn skills—they actually use them in a safe setting.
It’s faster growth. Learning with peers speeds up progress and builds confidence.
It builds connection. Support from peers can be life-changing (and way more relatable.)
Plus, it’s more affordable. You’re able to receive the benefits of therapy at a fraction of the cost of one-on-one sessions.
